Pet insurance

Today, many pet owners are searching for ways to help make veterinary care more affordable. A pet insurance policy allows you to make optimal healthcare decisions for your pet based on his needs and your veterinarian's recommendation, rather than on the cost of treatment. At Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital we encourage the use of pet insurance plans. Insurance policies are portable, so you can see any veterinarian you choose, including a specialist. The process is simple- pet owners pay veterinarians for services rendered, then submit the bills to the insurance carrier for reimbursement.

Our team has spent many hours researching the following three great plans that our hospital can honestly recommend- we have pet insurance policies for our own pets too!

Trupanion is endorsed by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This company focuses on accident and injury/ illness plans, which most of the time are unexpected expenses that are often difficult to afford. Trupanion makes the process of filing a claim and getting reimbursed very easy; they pay 90% of all accidental or illness related visits and will compensate you within 24 hours to 7 days.  Trupanion will enroll any pet from 8 weeks of age to 14 years, and once enrolled, do not increase premiums as the pet ages. They also offer new kitten and puppy owners the option to sign up for a free 30 day trial that takes effect 24 hours after their first exam, and will automatically cancel if they do not renew at the end of the 30 days.

PetPlan has three plans to choose from with no limits per claim and a choice of deductible. They also offer a discount if your pet is microchipped, and offer a multiple pet discount.  One of the plans also covers boarding and the cost of advertising or offering a reward if your pet goes missing.

Embrace offers plans that encompass accidental, injury/ illness and wellness. This company offers 108 plans to choose from and has customizable plans specific to your pet. When a pet is enrolled in an accidental and illness prevention plan, they can also be enrolled in a Wellness Rewards plan with no deductible, no co-pay, and no waiting period.
