General Practice

Santa Cruz Veterinary ClinicSurgery

Each surgical patient is carefully evaluated by our veterinarian for their individual anesthetic risk and pain management needs before they are prepared for surgery. We recommend pre-anesthetic blood work to make sure that your pet’s internal organs are functioning normally before we administer anesthesia. Each patient will have an IV catheter placed, which allows us to deliver fluids to stabilize blood pressure and keep them hydrated. The IV also provides peace of mind because in the event of an unforeseen emergency, our doctor and technicians would have IV access if needed to deliver medications quickly.

General practice surgical services are supported by highly trained veterinary technicians and advanced monitoring equipment. During surgery, our technicians monitor patient temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen and carbon dioxide flow. Your pet will be provided with pain management before, during, and after surgery and will be closely monitored during recovery.  Your pet may stay overnight with doctor- managed care after surgery in order to rest comfortably in the hospital. When you pick your pet up from the hospital, we will schedule a technician appointment in order to give you time to ask any questions and go over home care instructions and medications with our team.

Surgery services include spay and neuter surgery, laceration and abscess repair, mass removal, and reproductive surgery including cesarean sections. We also offer artificial insemination procedures.
